About Us

The Ramphal Institute is a new and unique organisation, designed to operate as an independent intellectual hub on policy issues for the Commonwealth and its 53 member states as well as for the wider world. It will:

  • provide, through the facilitation of high quality analysis , innovative ideas to assist member states in their efforts to meet the environmental, developmental and governance challenges of the 21st Century.
  • ask qualified persons, working in expert Commissions and representing the diversity of the Commonwealth, to develop ideas which can be adapted by the Commonwealth and the wider international community
  • promote the dissemination of innovative and progressive policies into worldwide practice, with the support of prominent Commonwealth personalities.
  • use innovative IT techniques to collect ideas from around the world, and to involve its supporters in persuading governments and other agencies to implement its Commission proposals.

The launch of the Centre was supported by our Patrons, but for continuing funding we rely on donations to support our important work.

The Institute is a not-for-profit company, limited by guarantee, registered in England. Its activities are set out in the Articles of Association, and trustees and an organising committee direct its affairs while the Centre is being launched and funding secured.

Four pillars or principles govern how the Institute will conduct its affairs.
